Typical shell-length 200 mm. Lives subtidally amongst rocks and seaweed, especially in exposed environments.
Occurs in southeastern and southwestern Australia (QLD, NSW, TAS, VIC, SA and WA); also New Zealand. In Tasmania this is a widespread species but seldom beached; most common in the E and S.
