Typical shell-length 40 mm. Shell with slightly raised, rounded ribs. Periostracum semi-persistent. May be uniformly dark brown, or darker towards one lateral margin than towards the other. Beached shells are often faded and worn, so that the remaining brown pigmentation is only evident on one side. Lives subtidally in sand in exposed environments.
Endemic to southeastern and southwestern Australia (NSW, TAS, VIC, SA and WA). In Tasmania this is an uncommon species, largely confined to Flinders Island and the N coast.
