Synonym(s): maculata Quoy & Gaimard, 1832 dorsalis Allan, 1933.

Typical body-length 100 mm.  Lives intertidally to offshore amongst sea-anemones.  Occurs in southeastern and southwestern Australia (QLD, NSW, TAS, VIC, SA and WA); also New Zealand.
