Malleidae: Vulsella spongiarum Lamarck, 1819 ('common sponge-finger')  

Synonym(s): spongiarum Lamarck, 1819 ovata Lamarck, 1819 limaeformis Reeve, 1858 lingua-felis ex parte Reeve, 1858 rudis Reeve, 1858 tasmanica Reeve, 1858 minor Dunker, 1875.

Figures a-c: 45 mm, Mayfield, Tas (E). Figure d: total length 28 mm, embedded in sponge, Somerset, Tas (N). Figures e-f: 8 mm, Taroona, Tas (S).

Typical shell-length 50 mm.  Lives subtidally and offshore embedded in sponges.  Occurs all around Australia (QLD, NSW, TAS, VIC, SA, WA and NT); not recorded elsewhere.  In Tasmania this is a widespread and common species, particularly in the N where the shells tend to be larger.
